Can’t SSH over Wi-Fi

misterbishi

Hi, I have a pi running Debian and it is connected to my network via Ethernet. I want to SSH into it from my iPhone over the Wi-Fi. How do I do this? I’ve tried everything within my scope but nothing works.

andy_s

does it work from your PC?

herogaca

Too much complicated words for me Make sure both in same network and use same IP "pool?"

oops.se

<@297860658173575180> Is SSH enabled ? Because SSH is disabled by default (A security feature).

herogaca

Who delet my

oops.se

<@190422021757206530> Andy_S did delete a lot off messages.

misterbishi

Yes it worked on putty from my computer but my computer is also on ethernet

misterbishi

I also have a beagle bone black and I’m trying to do this with running the exact same operating system, and it does the same thing

misterbishi

I noticed they both won’t let me connect through the direct IP address though

misterbishi

So if I do, Ifconfig I get 192.168.7.112.

misterbishi

However, it will not let me SSH through that Ip

misterbishi

But if I do the host name like beagle bone it works

misterbishi

Same thing with the pi

misterbishi

Just to further clarify, I have a raspberry pie connected to the network via ethernet, and I want to SSH into it from a device connected via Wi-Fi

oops.se

So you can SSH to the hostname but not the IP can you be a bit more detailed about the network, IP adr/subnet on eth and WiFi? And if you ping the hostname from your PC what do you get then?

misterbishi

I’ll have to check that when I get home but here’s some of my ifconfig I took a picture of before goin to bed

misterbishi

This is through putty in an ssh connection to my beaglebone

misterbishi

Probably doesn’t help much but it’s all I have right now

misterbishi

I’ll get back to it when I get home from work

oops.se

A portrait picture of text in landscape, its to hard to read...

misterbishi

Yeah I know my bad lol

misterbishi

I’ll get proper screenshots later

oops.se

You could have cropped the picture

misterbishi

Yeah my bad

oops.se

misterbishi

Anyway I’m diagnosing BMW electricals right now so I’ll come back around 6 pm PST with some new information

herogaca

herogaca

herogaca

misterbishi

okay i am home ill get the ips

misterbishi

ifconfig returns
eth0: flags=-28605<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,MULTICAST,DYNAMIC> mtu 1500
        inet 192.168.7.112 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.7.255
        inet6 fd10:2b7:bbf9:4b13:9259:afff:fe55:7dde prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x0<

misterbishi

my iphone says
 IP 192.168.7.113
subnet mask 255.255.255.0
router ip 192.168.7.1

misterbishi

<@190422021757206530> <@796000224690307072>

herogaca

Broadcast 255 hmm idk what means maybe getaway?

oops.se

<@190422021757206530> Gateway is "router ip 192.168.7.1" on the iPhone and on linux
ifconfig
don't show it but
route -n
does show the routing info and that includes gateway info.

oops.se

So what app are you using on the iPhone?

oops.se

And you haven't added any keys or changed /etc/ssh/sshd_config ?

misterbishi

I figured it out

misterbishi

SSH is disabled on iPhone

misterbishi

I opened putty on my girlfriends laptop, and I was able to SSH into it just fine

misterbishi

You have to jailbreak your iPhone to be able to SSH

oops.se

Ahhh nice !

herogaca

Scream

herogaca
