Just bought this, but when I opened the RPi software on my laptop it said it didn’t see any storage I could use. I know this comes with an operating system, but doesn’t it also have storage? Does the sd card need to be plugged in to my pc and not my pi? Please help.

Raspberry Pi boot from the SD card. To remove it would be like to remove your harddrive from your PC = Nothing to boot from.

Is your PC a Linux, Mac or windows?

Plug in your SD card in your Pi and power on!

Windows

nova_77

The sd is in the pi

nova_77

It just doesn’t recognize storage for some reason

Windows should see a small partition on the SD card "Boot" but the big part is invissible since Windows doesn't understand Linux filesystem.

What does boot mean

nova_77

I’m pretty new sorry

The SD card has two partitions (it's logically divided) one is boot with a FAT filesystem, that Windows can read. The rest of the SD cards is a Linux partition. You should see them in windows "Disk manager"

Ok

I just realized I’m dumb and you can’t plug a raspberry pi into a laptop

Well you can. There is something called "USB Gadget" and with "USB Gadget" you can emulate a keyboard, mouse, serial, ethernet and/or storage. And if you want to share files between your Windows PC and Raspberry Pi over the network you can use samba and share a folder from your Pi.
