Hi there. I was running mainsail on my pi and until recently it was working fine. Now only the red light comes on and it doesn’t seem to boot. I confirmed my power source is 5.3v . I tried plugging it into an external monitor to see what it is doing and it said no signal. I checked the sad card. It seems fine, but I tried a second one just in case. I can’t see any physical damage to the card, and no reason why it would have suffered any. But I’m at a loss.

Only green = No bootable media. If it is a recent Pi4 you should be able to see boot info on hdmi0

And SD card. There are two types of SD cards, the one that is broken and the one that is going to become broken.

lol

k9t33n

this problem occurs a lot

k9t33n

ok so first uninstall and reinstall the imager just to make sure its up to date

k9t33n

then selct pi 4 when you select os press "erase" at the bottom then continue

k9t33n

now select raspi os 64 bit select the settings you want and etherything. and write

k9t33n

plug this into the pi and see if it boots now

k9t33n

if that doesnt work repeat the same process but with a usb stick instead

<@796000224690307072> only red. When I plugged it into a monitor to see if there was any boot info it just said no signal

<@1071178789939331253> didn't even know you could use a usb instead of a SD card

k9t33n

from a pi 4 upwards you can

oops.se

From Raspberry Pi 4 and up you can boot from a USB storage device by default or "Out of the box". For Raspberry Pi 3 you need to do a one time programming to get it to boot from a USB storage device.

h_a_r_t_n_e_t_t

Does it matter which usb port you use?

k9t33n

the blue ones are faster

k9t33n

they may not work tho so if it doenst switch to the grey

h_a_r_t_n_e_t_t

It seems like nothing is happening thus far. Any other suggestions.

<@1071178789939331253> any other suggestions?

k9t33n

kinda looks like a dead pi

h_a_r_t_n_e_t_t

That’s what I’m worried about. And no clue how it would have happened

h_a_r_t_n_e_t_t

Is there any idiot proof way to confirm that’s the case?

Verify that a bootable media can boot in a similar Raspberry Pi model and then switch the bootable media to the Raspberry Pi that you investigate. And do this with multiple SD and USB storage devices. So if the reference Raspberry Pi can boot of the device and the investigated Raspberry Pi can't boot you have a dead Raspberry Pi.
