Which editor did you use?

n8666.

Nano editor

I tried to use pi imager to put the boot drive as my nvme but it didn't show up as a device I can format

The nvme has the PCIe connector in

n8666.

It also has a 5v wire but I didn't think that would be needed to have it work

n8666.

Just thought that was for the LEDs on the board

Ctrl + o Ctrl + x

Yeah

Is your issue that when you type the command sudo nano /boot/config.txt and then add the line dtparam=pciex1_gen=3 and save and exit the file you get messages about symbolic links? If that is the case you have probably a faulty and corrupt SD-card.

make sure you have the sudo though

oops.se

sudo or no sudo shouldn't give the message failed to save too many levels of symbolic links

_krazy.

Are you sure it's " dtparam=pciex1_gen=3 "

k9t33n

just makeing sure, I've had similar errors without sudo so I thought it could be that

n8666.

It was a fresh one from raspberry pi 5 so idk if it would be broken

I could try and buy a new micro SD card
