wisiewig

restarted it, and the light is now off

k9t33n

> that's weird cause the lights on the light on the camera?

wisiewig

yeah

wisiewig

It was red solid

wisiewig

now its not doing anything

wisiewig

also I did try a webcam but no luck

k9t33n

ok first lets go through everything

k9t33n

do you have isopropyl alcohol?

wisiewig

yes

wisiewig

i assume on the cable?

wisiewig

or?

k9t33n

on the ribbon cable end

k9t33n

so take it out and put it on the ribbon cable and connector, then wipe it

wisiewig

is it hotswap?

wisiewig

so I restarted it and The light came on then Off, then on then off again and its staying off?

wisiewig

urg

wisiewig

vcgencmd get_camera supported=1 detected=1, libcamera interfaces=0

wisiewig

this is my OS etc

wisiewig

plugged in another webcam from USB and getting this now

k9t33n

try an update

k9t33n

plug it in and update

wisiewig

i have

k9t33n

sudo app update; sudo apt upgrade; sudo reboot now just run this now

wisiewig

done

wisiewig

nothing

k9t33n

which pi cam is this?

wisiewig

1.3

wisiewig

ive also noticed that I have to boot up the pi through the 2 contacts that say RUN next to the stacked USB port

k9t33n

pi 3?

wisiewig

3b

wisiewig

im running octoprint tho

wisiewig

If that matters

k9t33n

probably will

k9t33n

that's probably what does it, is this a pi cam to monitor your 3d printer or something?

wisiewig

yeah

wisiewig

The rest of it works flawless

wisiewig

Just camera works sometimes, then stops

wisiewig

then It breaks

wisiewig

then it works

wisiewig

then it breaks and stops for weeks

wisiewig

Idk

k9t33n

I suggest you try a usb camera although it will be worse performance

wisiewig

I have one plugged in but its not working either

k9t33n

so plug that one in you tried and let's run the troubleshooting with that

wisiewig

okay

k9t33n

run the command I said above

k9t33n

sudo apt update; sudo apt upgrade -y; sudo reboot now

wisiewig

Its got nothing to install

k9t33n

then ofcourse libcamera-hello -t -0

wisiewig

Its all up to date

k9t33n

no but it's recommended to do it once plugged in

wisiewig

I have

wisiewig

its still not adding anything

k9t33n

tbh with you I forgot why they recommend that

wisiewig

I just did it

wisiewig

and

k9t33n

ok then just reboot

wisiewig

k9t33n

damn try plugging it in to a computer to see if it works

k9t33n

even better, a Linux computer if you have one

wisiewig

it works on my Windows and MAc

k9t33n

okay

k9t33n

hmmm this is interesting

wisiewig

innit

k9t33n

I'm guessing you don't have another pi to test?

wisiewig

nope

k9t33n

ok then the only thing I can think of is to get raspberry pi os

wisiewig

is it worth Reinstaslling octoprint and enabiling EVerything?

k9t33n

and actually I would definitely then recommend putting octoprint in a docker container

wisiewig

huh?

k9t33n

never heard of docker?

wisiewig

nope

k9t33n

DW I was on the same boat as you last month

k9t33n

ok so [docker](https://www.docker.com/) is a tool for Linux machines which puts different stuff in different "containers" these containers can be like completely separate machines from the point of view of each container

k9t33n

if I were to link something would you prefer to read or watch a YouTube video?

wisiewig

Read and watch, does it work with octoprint?

wisiewig

Then I have it linked through octoeverwhere and OctoApp

k9t33n

both? ok

wisiewig

wisiewig

Now it’s working

wisiewig

To

wisiewig

Tf

k9t33n

wth?.. I wouldn't complain for now but if it's inconsistent you may want to switch anyway

wisiewig

Innit

wisiewig

Will sudden power offs make it go weird

wisiewig

?

k9t33n

yes definitely, it's recommended you prevent sudden power offs anyway and make sure you run sudo poweroff or similar before power is cut

k9t33n

I mean if the camera is unreliable as you mentioned you may want to switch to raspberry pi os and put octoprint in a container

oops.se

Any computer system with a OS dislikes that the power is cut off. Use sudo poweroff

wisiewig

right okay

wisiewig

and its stopped again
