Speeding up refresh rate of raspberry pi 3'5 inch LCD display (GPIO controlled)

the FPS of my new touchscreen display is very low. Refreshes very slow at like 2 fps. I'm wondering if i can somehow speed this up. Even an increase of 3 fps could help. The drivers are pretty old I'm guessing - https://github.com/goodtft/LCD-show
Not sure what the brand or company is, I bought it straight from the Chinese manufacturer.
