I need a raspberry pi that i can connect a microphone and speaker to that runs some code when it hears a specific word. Which rasberry pi should i get? (i don't need the best one just one that can do it's job) i also want to be able to use it for more projects later on so maybe one that is good all around, i know nothing about them lol

irvingmclaughlin

in that post it says a pi pico is good if you only want to program, would that include what i want to do?

You want it for more projects in the future and "good all around" so I wouldn't suggest the pico

irvingmclaughlin

would the raspberry pi 4 be a good choice then

k9t33n

Yes it would

k9t33n

That's around the area I was thinking but I need you to choose yourself

k9t33n

So it's not biased and so you can grow and know more about raspberry pis

irvingmclaughlin

the 5 looks really similar and i assume is just better in processing power

k9t33n

The pi 4 is second to the best and an excellent choice for a begining pi since you won't regret it later

k9t33n

Yes it's 2-3x faster. But also has a number of other upgrades like RTC and PCIE

k9t33n

Should I explain those?

irvingmclaughlin

rtc is clock i think

irvingmclaughlin

pcie is the graphics card thing on pcs

irvingmclaughlin

right?

k9t33n

Close

k9t33n

RTC stands for real time clock. So you can plug in a battery and it will always keep time correct without WiFi. You are correct

k9t33n

Pcie gives the ability to add other devices onto your pi, like a GPU if your really stretching it. But you can also add a SSD or similar

k9t33n

Adding a GPU is a bit difficult though and not really too worth it on a pi 5

irvingmclaughlin

can the raspberry pi 4 connect to wifi without a wifi adaptor?

k9t33n

Yes

k9t33n

Both wlan and Lan
