Raspberry Pi 4B experiencing slowdowns

Hello, I've finished setting up my Raspberry Pi 4B and I'm noticing quite a lot of slowdowns. For example: if I want to open a window it can take quite long to open, especially compared to a PC OS (ik I shouldn't really compare, but still). Is there any way to maybe increase the speed? Am I maybe missing something? I'd appreciate help.

k9t33n

you can overclock your pi

k9t33n

or increase gpu ram/swap

k9t33n

id increase gpu ram first

k9t33n

but swap and overclocking both come with disadvantages you may want to avoid.

How much RAM does the Pi have? Which OS do you have installed? Raspberry Pi OS: Desktop or Desktop and recommended software?

lazycolgate

8gb, raspberry OS 64-bit

lazycolgate

id on't think i have recommended software installed

thunder07337

What kind of SD card are you using?

lazycolgate

A 128gb Kingston

thunder07337

We would need a little more data, which class C, U and/or V?

lazycolgate

V

lazycolgate

Should I maybe just take a quick pic of it 😅

thunder07337

Possibly a forgery. 🤷‍♂️ I've never had such problems with SanDisk, but I also lift V30, U3.

k9t33n

No slowdowns aren't uncommon on a pi

k9t33n

Enter sudo raspi-config in a terminal or go into the main menu --> preferences --> config

lazycolgate

Yup I'm there

k9t33n

Which one?

lazycolgate

The GUI version

lazycolgate

So the latter

k9t33n

Okay go into performance and set your GPU ram to the highest

lazycolgate

I don’t see an option for it

lazycolgate

I only see some fan config and a filesystem overlay

k9t33n

Can you screenshot? It's been a while since I've been in gui

lazycolgate

k9t33n

Nvm

k9t33n

Try sudo raspi-config

lazycolgate

Under performance options

lazycolgate

The same as GUI

lazycolgate

Any other ideas?

mow_cat

is this the newest raspberry pi os?

mow_cat

bookworm?

mow_cat

id say try buster or bullseye if you can get them

k9t33n

Shouldn't make a difference

k9t33n

Anyway it's fine

k9t33n

You want to enable swap?

mow_cat

my pi4 was incredibly slow when i tried to go to new os

mow_cat

no kms definitely seemed to make a difference

lazycolgate

yup

lazycolgate

nope

lazycolgate

I've got the space for it so sure

k9t33n

It does unfortunately mean that it dramatically decreases SD card reliability

lazycolgate

Hmm

lazycolgate

Nah then it's fine

lazycolgate

I did notice it way mainly GPU btw

lazycolgate

The rest seemed fine

lazycolgate

(checked in task manager)

k9t33n

Yeah that makes sense the GPU is way less powerful
