Hello. I am trying to get Raspywow, from GitHub, to run on my Pi4 8GB. I am very new to all things this. Using ChatGPT, I was able to get the files and compile them. make was the last command I used, then chat requested me to edit 2 server conf files that were not in the repository. This is where I hit a wall. Anyone know how to get this going so my friends won't need my tower to be on to play our server? Separately, could someone explain why posting almost identical question into Raspberry Pie discord server help section had me permanently banned with no explanation?

It's running 64bit PiOS, but I'd like it to just run the server from boot with nothing else if possible. I'm not attached to any method as long as it works in the end. Thanks in advance!

I'd say they banned you because you're violating copyright law with something like that...

Cross posting isn't getting you banned, kicked or placed on time out. I normally just ask plp not to cross post as that is unnecessary and just confuse discussions and waste other plp time and resources.

And what source (URL) are you talking about when mention Raspywow?

Yeah, maybe. Saying that would have made more sense . 😅 I didn't know the situation because I ran one when it wasn't against any rules a decade or two ago. I didn't realize classic coming out changed things.

This is for local lan play among a small group and I bought the game nearly every expansion. We also play and pay for the subscription, so my morale leanings say it's fine. The law seems extremely grey, especially in my case... personal use, active ownership, small and non-network facing. I plan to dig deeper, but this could also explain why it doesn't really work as is anymore on github with no install instructions.

Its mostly about Lich King Raids in Org with ETC playing a concert in the background through console commands. Or playing as zombie npc mobs and raiding Stormwind. Content unavailable in the regular game.

Unfortunately, buying the game or a subscription does not give you the right to create a private wow server. This is already against copyright law. If you also modify the game with content that does not exist in the regular game, this is a further infringement of copyright law...

That content is in the game, just not available to nonmods. I do want to say, I'm giving up on the project because it's grey. The more I look, the less I think that is true we would break copyright anything in my case. It seems the illegal part is redistributing key files (maps, quests, etc) emphasis on distributing. We all have a current and active subscription, so the files are already in everyone's possession legally and verified in a proper channel. Idk, Chatgpt thinks this negates the argument and I agree, but neither are lawyers.
