Controlling Powered Components with a transistor

Perhaps your transistor has a different pin arrangement to the one shown here
This assumes emitter base collector which is quite uncommon
so I have checked both the box and product listing which do not inticate which arrangment to have them in
so
i flipped it around
and it works
