Opinions on NVMe USB component resolder for a project

Posting this here, just in case someone has a better idea (:D).
I need to install an SSD on my pi 5. I made a custom case for the raspberry and it doesn't make sense to get an ssd shield, as it would cover the fan (photo below)
Is it a good idea, in your opinion, to get something like this usb NVMe adapter, and resolder it to make an "L" shape?
I think it would look pretty good and fit nicely
Hopefully this explains what I'm trying to do
So, in your experience, is it a possible solution to just resolder this part, making a 90° angle?
Or if you have better storage placement ideas, lmk! (No messy wire zone here)
I didn't know these were a thing
So I guess that solves all my problems
